About Talking About Mental Illness

Talking About Mental Illness is a six-part interactive classroom program developed by Black Dog Institute to explore the experiences of young people who live with mental illness. The program features the insights and perspectives of young people who share how mental illness as impacted them, their path to recovery, and the strategies they use to keep well.

The Talking About Mental Illness program is made up of six videos with support discussion topics, quizzes and additional resources. The entire program can be delivered in a one-hour lesson or as separate lessons.

By taking part in the program students gain insight into:

  • what it is like living with a mental illness
  • how to help a friend they are worried about
  • helpful conversations
  • where to go for support
  • who to boost their mood and keep mentally well
