About Suicide Call Back Service
The Suicide Call Back Service provides immediate telephone counselling and support in a crisis. Additionally, they can provide up to six further telephone counselling sessions with the same counsellor scheduled at times best suited to the caller’s needs.
Professional counsellors, with specialist skills in working with suicide-related issues, assist the caller in working through difficult emotions. The counsellor can help with goal planning, ensuring safety, and help to link to other services in the community.
Who is Suicide Call Back Service for?
Suicide Call Back Service is for people 15 years and over who fit one of the following categories:
- People who are suicidal
- People caring for someone who is suicidal
- People bereaved by suicide
- Health professionals supporting people affected by suicide
The Suicide Call Back Service is especially suited to people who are geographically or emotionally isolated.
Is there a cost to use Suicide Call Back Service?
Calls from a landline will be charged the cost of a local call. Calls from mobiles will be charged a higher rate. There is no cost to use the online counselling services.

Suicide Call Back Service Research and Evaluation
The Suicide Call Back Service program was formally evaluated by Pacific Strategy Partners in June 2011.
Additionally, the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) are currently evaluating all National Suicide Prevention Programme (NSPP) funded programs, including the Suicide Call Back Service.
