Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling is Australia’s leading provider of high quality mental health assessment, clinical counselling and support services for Australian veterans and their families, as well as some reservists and peace keepers. Open Arms focuses on meeting client needs through a combination of proven clinical practices and new and emerging evidence-based approaches.
Who is Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling for?
Open Arms’ counselling and support services are available to:
- current serving ADF personnel
- personnel transitioning to civilian life
- ex-serving members
- partners and children of serving and ex-serving personnel
- ex-partners who are co-parenting
- reservists with one day continuous full time service or hazardous service
* Where there has been a death of a service person, parents and siblings can also access Open Arms services.
Is there a cost to use Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling?
Open Arms offers free, confidential 24-hour counselling via our toll free number 1800 011 046, however charges may apply from mobiles and payphones. If you are outside Australia and need to call Open Arms please phone +61 1800 011 046. If the country you are calling from doesn’t enable calls to 1800 numbers, you can call +61 2 85666920. Calling the number from overseas may incur a cost to the caller depending on their carrier agreement.

Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling Research and Evaluation
In July 2019 Open Arms retained Accreditation under the National Standards for Mental Health Services (NSMHS). The Quality Innovation Performance accreditation report stated that Open Arms had met all requirements of the NSMHS and commended Open Arms on its many strengths and positive feedback from clients and stakeholders.
