This month our featured service is the Sortli, a free app providing information to assist young people to transition from care to independence in adulthood. Sortli is a recent addition to the eMHPrac Directory of resources.

About Sortli

Sortli is a free app developed by the CREATE Foundation in partnership with the Australian government, providing information to assist young people aged 15 years and over transition from care to independence in adulthood.

Sortli, short for ‘sort out your life’ is the ultimate guide to becoming an adult was designed in consultation with young people to help users find the information and services they need, when they need them. The app covers many topics including:

  • Identity
  • Relationships (in person and online)
  • Personal and cyber safety
  • Education and employment
  • Money
  • Legal, including knowing your rights
  • Living skills, such as getting a licence
  • Housing, including renting a home
  • Looking after your health

The information in Sortli is provided with step-by-step guides, allowing users to set personal goals and milestones, track progress and celebrate their successes. Information entered into the app is stored on the user’s mobile device only and not provided to the developers, government or anyone else.

Featured of Sortli

The Sortli app includes various resources to help young people navigate all the important areas of their life including:

  • A goal list – user can create a list of goals to work towards with the help of Sortli, such as learning to cook or getting their ID.
  • Budget planner – users can input their income and work out their expenses to help them stay on top of their money. This feature helps users to save and make sure their living expenses are manageable.
  • A coloured navigation wheel – easy navigation to help users find information on various topics.
  • State directories – users can find relevant and important services in their area to contact for support.

Who is Sortli for?

Sortli is designed to support young people transitioning out of car into independent adulthood. As it covers some sensitive topics it is not suitable for young people under 15 years of age.

The app is currently only available for young people in Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

Health practitioners can recommend Sortli to their patients and clients approaching the end of their time in care, or transitioning out of care.

Sortli is free to download and use at any time.
