About Cancer Counselling Service

Cancer Counselling Service is Queensland’s only cancer-specific service offering the opportunity for those affected by cancer, at any point, to speak to Nurse Counsellors or Psychologists. The specially-trained staff understand that a cancer diagnosis can come with a range of difficulties and can work with the caller to develop new ways of coping to improve quality-of-life. The Cancer Counselling Service can help with issue's such as:

  • Adjusting to life with cancer
  • Stress and difficulty coping
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Physical losses and changes in your ability to participate in normal activities
  • Family or relationship problems
  • Managing treatment side-effects
  • Overcoming sexual problems
  • Ways to manage uncertainty about the future
  • Issues faced once active treatment is complete
  • Dealing with fear of recurrence

The service also provides support and guidance in relation to end of life issues and bereavement support.


Who is Cancer Counselling Service for?

The Cancer Counselling Service is available to anyone in Queensland who is distressed by cancer, including family and friends.


Is there a cost to use Cancer Counselling Service?

Calls from a landline will be charged the cost of a local call. Calls from mobiles will be charged at a higher rate.


How to access Cancer Counselling Service's services

Anyone across Queensland who is affected by cancer can contact the Cancer Counselling Service via:

  • Calling 13 11 20, Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm (excluding public holidays). If outside business hours, it's possible to call and leave a message, with the call being returned the next business day.
